San Luis Valley Regional Airport, Bergman Field, is 2 miles south of Alamosa, CO. It is open to the public, supporting commercial service and general aviation.
Camera views include Crestone, Blanca Peak, the San Luis hills and the east approach to Wolf Creek Pass. Weather in this high plains region is quite variable. High winds are common with large directional changes with increasing altitude. This divergence in winds is obvious when low-level cumulus clouds move one way, and the high-level cirrus clouds move another. Isolated thunderstorms often move through the area quickly.
The Central Colorado Regional Airport sits on a mesa above the intersection of US 285 and US 24. Buena Vista is in a valley that is closely surrounded by mountains on three sides. This topography creates what is called a 'blue hole.' Throughout most of the year, the sky above the airport is cloudless, even though the surrounding mountains may be shrouded by clouds. Consequently, the airport enjoys many more days of visibility than most mountain airfields.
The Meadow Lake cameras are located east of I-25 and are mounted on the airport beacon tower.
This installation includes views of Pikes Peak, the Palmer Divide, Colorado Springs and the eastern plains. Weather arrives most often from the west. Cameras on the Avionics Specialists hangar include views of the eastern plains of Colorado, Berthoud, Longs Peak and the Mummy Range. Most weather in this region arrives from the west. The west and northwest cameras often capture lee waves and lenticular clouds. It is common to see high cirrus clouds and lower cumulus clouds moving in opposite directions. During the summer, thunderstorms can be dramatic and severe.
